Responsibilities
The Risk Management Department at Mizuho EMEA is responsible for delivering an independent assessment of the risks taken across all the business activities of Mizuho EMEA, and the revenue generated in relation to these risks. It is also responsible for implementing a risk management framework consistent with the risk appetite and capacity of resources, in agreement with the EMEA CIB strategy and senior stakeholders of Mizuho Group. The department is led by the Chief Risk Officer and is made up of the following teams:
- Credit Risk Management
- Market Risk Management
- Contingent Risk Management
- Regulatory & Liquidity Risk Management
- Operational Risk Management
- Quantitative Risk
- Stress Testing
- Risk Management Planning
What will you be doing?
- Evaluating the firm’s credit risk exposure and offering detailed analysis aligned with our risk appetite across counterparties and products
- Conducting reviews of financial institutions (FIs) and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), including hedge funds, insurers, sovereigns, and other investment entities
- Performing country and sovereign risk assessments and managing ad-hoc limit requests
- Assessing new business proposals and bespoke transactions, providing comprehensive recommendations
- Contributing to risk reporting and investigating exposure discrepancies or limit breaches
- Liaising with Head Office for limit approvals when required
- Collaborating with Front Office and Senior Credit Officers on limit allocation across products
- Coordinating with the Legal team to review credit terms in relevant documentation, including ISDA/CSA and GMRA agreements
- Monitoring daily credit updates and rating actions to manage risks proactively
- Managing credit approvals and assessments from end to end, including associated administration
- Demonstrating familiarity with lending to FIs and NBFIs, including related legal documentation
What do you need to succeed?
- Proven credit analysis experience in investment banking across a wide spectrum of financial institutions
- Strong understanding of trading room products (derivatives, repo, fixed income, FX, cash trading)
- Knowledge of credit risk frameworks, exposure reporting, and risk appetite alignment
- Experience analysing bespoke deals and investment banking products, with solid risk interpretation
- Expertise in country/sovereign risk and hedge fund credit assessments
- Confidence in presenting credit applications to senior forums and committees
- Strong numerical and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Willingness to take on both strategic and procedural tasks
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Bloomberg
- Ability to assess deals beyond credit metrics, applying strategic thinking
- Comfort participating in client meetings
- Capability to work independently with minimal oversight
