Job Overview
To lead a team to develop the long-term plans for each of our sewerage catchments, through the drainage and wastewater management planning process. This requires us to really understand the risks in each area, not just now but into the future. This role will lead the identification of planning options to deliver the best mix of operational, maintenance and capital investment to deliver targets - challenging constraints and identifying opportunities. The role will embed the outcomes of analysis into the business to enable asset management best practice and integrated plan development.
This role is accountable for the development, promotion and implementation of risk-based totex planning to deliver both Company and stakeholder needs. The team will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to fully understand current and future needs, driving the use of evidence-based decision making to optimise our plans.
This role will lead the professional development of the team, succession planning and driving the asset management maturity improvements.
About You
This role involves developing and refining risk management processes for wastewater systems, creating drainage and wastewater management plans, and recommending asset interventions that balance costs, outputs, and resilience. You will also work on integrating business plans into operational programs and enhancing asset data and management systems to support long-term strategies. You would need a good understanding of the principles of asset management, driving the maturity of our processes and systems.
A key part of the job is communicating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement effective wastewater management plans, building strong relationships, and ensuring maintenance standards meet legislative requirements for safety and reliability. The role includes line management of a technical team and leadership across functions, supporting team development.
The ideal candidate will have experience in asset management, investment planning, and the water or infrastructure sectors. They should understand regulatory frameworks, risk management, and whole-life cost analysis. Strong relationship-building, communication skills, and the ability to lead change are essential. Technical skills in IT, asset condition modelling, and mapping tools are also important.
Qualifications include a degree in a relevant field (science, engineering, risk management, etc.), a full driving license, and ideally, professional qualifications in asset or risk management. Overall, it's a leadership role focused on maintaining and improving wastewater infrastructure safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.
Package
This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working between our Falmer office and home.
