Purpose of the Job
Working in a key role, the Category Buyer will be expected to drive and deliver the sourcing vision and strategy for a large retail client across Europe.
This position will be responsible for all relevant sourcing activities spanning central and local supply chains for Point of Sale including 2D, 3D temporary and semi-permanent products for the EMEA region, covering strategy, vendor engagement, pricing and analysis.
The successful candidate will manage the dependencies between sourcing and relevant stakeholders to influence and execute optimum strategies for new and existing opportunities, providing thought leadership, product innovation, market intelligence and process governance.
This individual needs to have an established understanding of procurement and sourcing models ideally with an understanding of retail marketing executions and commercial analytics, committed to actively developing strategies and solutions based on challenges faced by the client.
This is a new role, and an opportunity to define and influence the longer-term sourcing strategy and commercial analytics provided to the client.
Key Responsibilities
Operational
- Determine, with relevant stakeholders, criteria for identifying value and profile of work which would automatically be referred to the Strategic Sourcing team for review at initial scoping/RFP/bid stage
- Manage the RFP and procurement process by identifying, validating and taking relevant specifications and services to market, negotiating terms, both price and service, with relevant vendors, before presenting sourcing proposals and recommendations to project stakeholders for approval.
- Support the management of production and service vendors by monitoring service levels, SLAs and market trends, aligned with the Central Sourcing Teams.
- Ownership of core specifications used across the account, including the capture of new reoccurring items, standardization of specifications and materials, value-engineering and QC testing.
- Ownership of automated and self-serve pricing solutions by utilizing all relevant pricing tools, e.g. rate cards etc to support the wider account team with pricing requirements and ensuring fast and accurate pricing is achieved.
- Possess a strong, well-informed assessment of how relevant specifications and service lines can be utilized by the wider team to support the achievement of commercial objectives and account development goals.
- Support a program of relevant information and knowledge sharing for all products and services, to ensure that all stakeholders have a well-informed understanding of potential value
- Drive the best practice vendor selection and procurement process across the account team
Financial
- Establish potential savings benefits arising procurement activity in relevant category spend
- Work with stakeholders to ensure that commercial targets are met or exceeded
Strategic Sourcing Service Delivery
- Deliver insight and creative solutions to account and business development teams when crafting bid responses, participating in client facing meetings as required
- Drive the Sourcing response in developing and delivering proposals and presentations outlining value to the client and procurement management strategy
- Review and develop the strategic approach to account specific sourcing scenarios and deliver best-in-class pricing through insight, optimisation, innovation and leveraging our vendor network within the region
Analysis
- Analysis of RFP responses and data sets
- Design and implement internal proposal and analysis solutions
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to deliver best in class data solutions + tailored insights to drive success
- Provide analytical business support and commercial guidance where possible
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and project support where required
Knowledge, Skills + Experience
- An experienced professional with significant procurement and commercial experience
- Experience of business process development and procurement outsourcing
- Demonstrate highly developed relationship management skills and develop excellent client relationships
- Ability to constructively challenge processes and requirements where appropriate and have the influencing skills to have an impact at all levels
- Ability to shape/influence the vendor network within the market and detailed understanding sourcing strategy
- Experience of working closely with teams to deliver project outputs on time
- Clear communicator
- The ability to negotiate at all levels
- Able to present complex data in an easy-to-understand manner
- A passion to learn and grow their skills and capabilities
- Microsoft office skills, including advanced MS excel skills
