Our client - Phoenix Community Housing - is recruiting a new Chair of Audit & Risk.
Created by tenants in 2007, Phoenix is a not-for-profit housing association based in South London. They own and manage more than 7600 homes in Lewisham and are building new homes with an emphasis on sustainability and high-quality design. Indeed, two recent developments were winners in the Housing Design Awards..
They are the first resident-led housing association in London and their model empowers tenants and leaseholders to take a central part in decision-making and become shareholder members. Under their rules, the Chair of the Board must be a tenant and tenants and leaseholders are currently the largest group on the management board. Residents are encouraged to get involved with Phoenix at all levels to influence services and define future priorities. It believes resident leadership is its core strength.
Phoenix’s vision is “Together, we are building a better future for our Phoenix community” and, helped by the strong strategic partnership they have with Lewisham Council, Phoenix proactively support local community initiatives to improve the environment and quality of life for everyone who works and lives in south Lewisham.
The Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Audit and Risk Committee carries out its delegated duties effectively and that all members are able to provide views to inform decisions.
We are looking for somebody with experience of working in the social/affordable housing sector with indepth knowledge of audit and risk and who ideally has already worked in a non-executive role.
This is a hybrid role, with board and committee meetings often taking place in evenings.
Remuneration will be £4000 per annum.
