The role of Chair of the Corporation
Greenhead College is seeking an exceptional leader with a deep passion for education to build on the progress achieved under the leadership of our current Chair, Richard Armstrong who is coming to the end of his second term of office as a Greenhead governor.
Our strategic priority of retaining our reputation of being the lead provider in the local area for student outcomes at A Level and one of the top performing Sixth Form Colleges in the country is at the heart of everything we do. Our new Chair will help Greenhead College achieve this ambition for our students, our staff, our local communities and the employers of the region.
The Chair will lead the Governing Body, ensuring the highest standards of governance, and will work collaboratively to help shape the future direction of the College. This role demands a commitment to upholding the College purpose and principles, continuing the delivery of high-quality study programmes and support for students and staff to achieve
their full potential, overseeing financial stability and fostering strong relationships within the community.
You will join a strong and committed Board of Governors, comprising twenty people which includes two staff and two student governors. Over the past twelve months we have recruited seven new governors to strengthen the skills and diversity of our Board.
As Chair you will embrace challenges, make decisive choices and inspire collaboration among peers and stakeholders. Further Education experience is not essential, your leadership, background and strategic insights will be invaluable. Prior experiences as a non-executive or senior leader within a public or commercial body and of chairing meetings is desirable.
You will be supported by a highly professional and committed College Leadership Team, a dedicated and skilled Board of Governors and a Clerk to the Corporation. A passion for education, sensitivity to the region’s demographics and an understanding of the College’s role in the community are vital, alongside skills to lead the Corporation.

This is a voluntary role, and expenses will be paid in line with the Board’s policy. Corporation meets four times each year, normally at 4.30pm on a Monday. Governor development sessions run for 30 minutes prior to all Corporation meetings.
The Chair also participates in Committee meetings (some of which are virtual) as well as a Strategic Day during the year. All meetings of the Board and its committees start at 4.30pm and some availability for daytime meetings with staff and stakeholders will be needed.
