About The Role
You will play a crucial role in preparing Civil related estimates within our Heat Networks team, and liaising with our preferred civil engineering sub-contract supply chain for project related tender packages. Preparing a projected net cost model for proposed projects and managing the tender process through site visits, tender packages, liaison with other departments, contractors and any proposed clients.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for tenders and projects related to civil works, including trenching, ducting, and reinstatement
- Accurately assess drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to develop comprehensive pricing models
- Price multiple elements of utility works including comms/HV and LV ducting, and district heating systems
- Assess and price temporary works requirements such as trench supports, traffic management, access platforms, and structural supports
- Develop bills of quantities from drawings, specifications, and other technical document
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure accurate quotations
- Develop and maintain unit rates and cost databases for civil, utility works and district heating.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure consistent pricing.
- Provide input into the value engineering process and suggest cost-saving measures.
- Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings as required.
- Support post-tender negotiations and handover to operational teams.
What you will need
- Proven experience as an estimator within the civil engineering sector.
- In-depth knowledge of trenching techniques, multi-utility installations, and district heating infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of current industry rates, methods of measurement and pricing strategies.
- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software such as Candy, Conquest, or similar.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
