Job overview

We are seeking a degree or masters graduate in a health science-related discipline to join our friendly team at CEDAR, part of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board with links to Cardiff University.

CEDAR supports decision making in healthcare through its contracts with national policy organisations and programmes including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the Welsh Value in Health Centre and Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC). CEDAR also supports original research and service evaluation projects.

We currently have a temporary vacancy for a Clinical Evaluation Scientist / Researcher to support CEDAR’s work with NICE, Value in Health and WHSSC. This post is available on a one year secondment or fixed term contract

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support projects across our portfolio of work, and experience in qualitative and mixed methods research, health economics or evidence reviews would be advantageous. An understanding of health care is essential, as is the ability to write and present clearly on complex health care interventions, keeping a number of topics on track to meet tight deadlines.

QualificationsEssential criteria

• Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in relevant scientific subject (eg scientific or engineering subject, psychology, etc.) or equivalent experience Relevant Masters degree (MSc) (eg health economics, research methods, clinical engineering, information management, ergonomics, etc.) or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

• PRINCE2 practitioner Research doctorate (PhD) Experience equivalent to a PhD
  

ExperienceEssential criteria

• Able to manage all aspects of a project eg including recruitment of experts or volunteers for research / testing. Able to work to tight deadlines. Evidence of successful project and time management skills Able to communicate effectively (in person, verbally and electronically) with a wide variety of stakeholders

Desirable criteria

• Specialist knowledge of research methods, Applying to Ethical Committee(s) for approval to conduct research project(s) involving human subjects Experienced in using a range of research methods quantitative and / or qualitative

• Able to design, create and use software to record complex multi-parameter information (eg survey data). Able to use software, to perform complex analysis of numerical and categorical data to combine this information into graphs & tables for reports, Excellent project management and organisational skills Able to prioritise and manage own work Able to work to tight deadlines Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence Able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Able to report appropriately and effectively to line manager.
  

Special KnowledgeEssential criteria

• Knowledge of research methods quantitative and / or qualitative (eg design of questionnaires and in depth interview techniques)
