An opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical fellow (2 x clinical robotic fellow posts) to work in the Gynaecological Cancer Centre in The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. This 2-year post is well suited to candidates keen on advancing their knowledge and skills in gynaecological oncology. The successful candidate could use this position as a part of their preparation to apply subsequently for completion of ESGO fellowships, ATSM in Gynaecological Oncology, a Unit Lead Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology, for future preparation for Sub Speciality Training in Gynaecological Oncology or to gain a robust training in advanced open and minimal access gynaecological surgery.
This post is suitable for candidates who wish to obtain post CCT Experience in Gynaecological Oncology, complete the RCOG ATSM in Oncology either post CCT or prior to CCT (as an out of programme)/ ESGO certification. The post holder is expected to apply for the RCOG ATSM/ ESGO certification and to work enthusiastically to complete it during this fellowship. The achievement of the oncology ATSM / ESGO certification milestones will be used in part to assess candidate’s progression in this post.
Surgical experience can be accrued within Gynaecological theatre sessions. This post will offer a comprehensive exposure to cutting edge surgery in gynaecological cancers including robotic, laparoscopic and open total and radical hysterectomy, open and robotic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy, sentinel node sampling, pelvic exenteration, vulval excision and reconstructive surgery. Also, cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer is performed in The James Cook University Hospital which could include pelvic clearance with peritonectomy, bowel resection, diaphragm stripping as indicated.
The post holder is expected to provide inpatient care for patients in the ward or in High Dependency Unit / Intensive Therapy Unit, and also take part in outpatient clinics (joint oncology, colposcopy and pre-operative). They are required to take part in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology middle grade on call rota to protect on-call supplement (not during working hours so that day- time focus will be entirely towards gynaecological oncology).
The successful applicant will have the necessary support to undertake a research project and present at National and International meetings.
The candidate will be encouraged to join one of the research programmes - Masters in Gyn Oncology ( 180 CPD credits with Teesside University) or MD/PhD as OOPR, jointly with the Teesside University ( state of art facilities at the National Horizon Centre) or Newcastle University. The course fees will require self-funding, but the research work will be funded from the relevant projects/departmental funding. In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in research programmes organised by the STRIVE ACeS facility at JCUH.
