We’re looking for kind, compassionate and motivated individuals to join our team at the RUH and play a vital role in supporting our nurses on the Acute Stroke Unit.

Acute Stroke Unit (ASU)

Our Acute Stroke Unit is a fast‑paced and rewarding environment where you will help deliver timely, evidence‑based care to patients during the most critical early stages of their stroke journey. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, the unit provides rapid specialist assessment, hyperacute interventions and focused rehabilitation from the moment a patient arrives.

Main duties of the job

Our Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) is a 31‑bedded ward with a 4‑bedded hyperacute bay, providing rapid specialist care for patients admitted from the Emergency Department and neighbouring hospitals. As a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker

, you will be an essential and valued member of our nursing team.

This role requires flexibility, commitment and compassion, and offers a genuinely rewarding career where you can make a real difference to patients and their families during one of the most critical stages of their recovery.

No previous care experience? That’s absolutely fine.

What matters most is kindness, empathy and a genuine desire to help others. We will teach you everything you need to know.

You will receive a full induction and all the training required for the role, including the opportunity to work towards the Care Certificate if needed. Many of our Healthcare Support Workers go on to train as Registered Nurses through the apprenticeship route while working at the RUH, fully supported by our nursing teams.

As the hospital provides 24‑hour care, you will work a combination of day and night shifts.

• Experience as a Health Care Assistant or other caring role
• Experience of caring for people in hospital or other care settings
  
  

Qualifications And Training

Essential criteria

• Able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills at interview assessment.

• Completed Care Certificate
• Previous experience as a healthcare assistant in a hospital setting.
