Description
The control of infection is one of the most important 21st century health care challenges. If you are passionate about making a difference where it really counts and want to influence change and drive progress, a full-time opportunity has arisen to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team as a band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

You will be a highly motivated, qualified Infection Prevention and Control nurse or a nurse with extensive clinical experience with evidence of a developed interest in Infection Prevention & Control. You will be responsible within the operational scope of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) (both acute and community), facilitating the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. You will also be expected to be involved in the delivery of the IPC education programmes for all staff throughout the Trust (both community and acute). The post holder must be information technology literate (Microsoft Office, Outlook), training will be provided for our Infection Prevention and Laboratory IT systems.

  • To work autonomously, managing a caseload of patients within the designated specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care
  • Support the Matron in providing and delivering appropriate infection prevention and control service that supports clinical and non-clinical staff in all settings to prevent and control infection in both patients, staff and visitors.
  • Contribute and where necessary update IPC policies and procedures, and monitor compliance, taking responsibility to address any gaps in practice.
  • Contribute to investigations of infection incidents, outbreaks and decontamination incidents for designated hospital site/clinical group, identifying lessons learnt, sharing best practice and identifying teams or individuals where additional support is required.
  • Act as a specialist advisor to staff within the hospital site on all matters relating to Infection Prevention and Control including key contact for all clinical and non-clinical teams that support the delivery of excellent infection prevention and control services, e.g. facilities teams such as Inpatient services, Essentia, Occupational Health and Health and Safety.
  • Support the operational delivery of the High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) service
  • Ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
