We are currently seeking a Senior AWS Architect for a short-term, high-impact engagement based in London, UK, supporting a large-scale cloud migration and modernization program.

Who Will You Work With:

Our client is a global enterprise undergoing a major cloud transformation journey. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, platform teams, DevOps engineers, security teams, and application owners to define and deliver AWS-native architectures that drive business value, scalability, and operational excellence.

About the Role:

As a Senior AWS Architect, you will lead the end-to-end architectural strategy for migrating complex on-premise environments to AWS. This role requires deep hands-on AWS expertise, strong architectural leadership, and the ability to translate technical decisions into measurable business outcomes.

You will play a critical role in defining target-state architectures, guiding containerization and modernization initiatives, and overseeing migration patterns such as lift & shift, replatforming, refactoring, and application consolidation.

Contract Duration: 4–6 weeks (extendable)

Key Responsibilities:

AWS Target Architecture & Design

• Define end-to-end AWS target-state architecture across compute, networking, security, storage, data, and application layers.
• Design AWS landing zones, multi-account strategies, and IAM models aligned with AWS best practices.
• Architect AWS-native solutions using services such as EKS, ECS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, CloudWatch, S3, CloudFront, KMS, and Control Tower.
• Ensure architectures are scalable, secure, cost-optimized, and operationally resilient.

On-Prem to AWS Migration Leadership

• Lead architectural vision and execution for large-scale on-prem to AWS migration programs.
• Define migration strategies including lift & shift, lift & optimize, containerization, modernization, and application consolidation.

Containerization & Modernization Strategy

• Define and lead containerization initiatives using ECS, EKS, Fargate, and container-based CI/CD pipelines.
• Guide teams in refactoring monolithic applications into containerized or microservices-based architectures.
• Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to design secure, automated, and scalable container platforms on AWS.

Application & Infrastructure Consolidation

• Identify opportunities to consolidate on-prem workloads into simplified AWS architectures.
• Rationalize applications, databases, and infrastructure to reduce complexity and improve cost efficiency.
• Establish standardized architectural patterns, templates, reusable modules, and blueprints.

AWS Native Enablement & Value Realization

• Recommend AWS-native services aligned with performance, security, cost, and business objectives.
• Build and present business cases highlighting:
• Cost optimization (right-sizing, savings plans, storage tiers, serverless models)

Technical Governance & Leadership

• Act as the technical authority for all migration-related decisions.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure compliance with security and governance standards.
• Mentor engineering and migration teams to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Partner with program and delivery teams on risk, cost, and timeline governance.

Required Skills & Experience:

Technical Expertise

• 14+ years of enterprise IT experience with deep AWS cloud architecture expertise.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS compute, networking (VPC, Transit Gateway), IAM, storage, containers, and automation.
• Extensive experience with services such as EC2, Lambda, ECS/EKS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora/DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, and Route53.
• Proven expertise in designing secure IAM and KMS strategies and multi-account AWS environments using Organizations and Control Tower.

Migration & Modernization

• Proven track record of leading large-scale, end-to-end cloud migration programs.
• Strong understanding of monolithic, microservices, and distributed application architectures.
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.

Leadership & Communication

• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and clearly articulate architectural decisions.
• Strong documentation, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working across security, compliance, DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
• AWS DevOps Engineer and/or Security Specialty certifications
• Experience with FinOps, cost modeling, and optimization frameworks
• Exposure to multi-cloud environments (nice to have)
