The Role

We are seeking an innovative Commercial Director to lead the sales, marketing, and advertising strategy for HENI Publishing and merchandise. This is a unique opportunity to shape the commercial future of a growing publisher, bringing fresh thinking to how art books reach their audiences in an increasingly digital world.


The successful candidate will be an e-commerce expert and become responsible for driving revenue growth across multiple channels, from direct-to-consumer sales to wholesale partnerships, while maintaining the quality and cultural integrity that defines our brand.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing & Sales

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies across digital and traditional channels
  • Drive direct-to-consumer sales through e-commerce, social media, and content marketing
  • Create innovative campaigns that align book and merchandise launches with exhibition schedules, art fairs, and cultural events
  • Build and manage relationships with key retail partners, including bookstores, museum shops, and galleries
  • Identify and develop new revenue streams and market opportunities


Business Development

  • Explore and develop new markets, corporate sales, and international distribution
  • Develop existing merchandising opportunities and ancillary products
  • Research and analyse market trends to inform publishing decisions


Operations & Inventory Management

  • Liaising with warehouse operations and inventory management systems
  • Implement forecasting and stock management processes
  • Coordinate with production team on print runs and scheduling


Essential Requirements

Experience

  • 8+ years in a senior marketing or commercial leadership role
  • Proven track record in digital marketing and D2C sales
  • Experience managing inventory/operations or working closely with operations teams
  • Demonstrated success in B2B sales or partnership development
  • Experience with physical product marketing (not just digital services)


Skills

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels (social media, email, SEO, paid advertising)
  • E-commerce platform experience (Shopify, Magento, or similar)
  • Data analysis and reporting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Budget management experience
