Commercial Lawyer

Our customer, a leading company in the telecommunications and technology sector is seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to provide 12-month maternity cover. This role sits within the legal team supporting the organisation’s UK-based Private Sector Business division. You will be a key legal advisor to commercial and product teams, supporting complex customer contracts, supplier arrangements, and strategic initiatives to help the business meet its goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on high-value, legally complex transactions with UK-based private sector customers.
• Deliver clear, pragmatic legal advice to support sales, product development, and commercial teams.
• Negotiate contracts that underpin the sale of innovative products and services.
• Support contract lifecycle management, including amendments, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate closely with bid teams, negotiating directly with customer legal representatives.
• Draft and maintain standard terms and supplier contracts, ensuring commercial viability.
• Advise on compliance with governance, competition law, and trading policies.
• Escalate and brief on complex matters effectively within legal and business teams.
• Liaise with external counsel and legal process outsourcing providers where required.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and help drive legal strategy and transformation.

Skills & Experience

• Qualified lawyer (minimum 2 years PQE) with solid experience in commercial contracts.
• Strong background in the telecoms and/or technology sectors is essential.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing a varied workload.
• Proven ability to assess legal and commercial risks and provide solution-oriented advice.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal issues.
• Detail-oriented, analytical, and pragmatic in approach.
• Experience advising on contract disputes and legal updates during contract lifecycles.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
