As part of the Regional Civils division, you will work across multiple projects across the North West based out of our Warrington office. Your role will be to interface between the Head of Commercial, Senior Commercial Manager and project commercial teams to take responsibility for the commercial day to day management of a portfolio of projects. To provide commercial responsibility to ensure commercial governance and procedures are adhered to in accordance with BBG BMS requirements.

What you'll be doing

As a Commercial Manager in the secure and ever-expanding infrastructure industry, you’ll:

  • Be responsible for the financial management of £multi-million projects – from inception, tendering and contract negotiation, through to delivery

  • Provide commercial responsibility and have responsibility for commercial teams to act as a focal point and manage the day to day commercial issues that may arise including management of value recovery, cost reduction and commercial management of subcontractors
  • Have responsibility for projects and commercial trouble shoot issues where required
  • Help create an environment of best practice and innovation within the commercial teams
  • Assist in driving BBG standard procedures and develop best practice within the project
  • Take responsibility for to commercial teams, develop commercial strategies and assist in recover of value to secure an acceptable commercial return to the business
  • Appoint, interface with and manage consultant teams to secure improved project margins
  • Providing commercial leadership of project margin performance through accurate forecasting and identification of issues giving rise to commercial risk
  • Attend necessary monthly reviews and commercial meetings as required
  • Management of commercial performance, cashflow, margin management (commercial value creation) and commercial risk on allocated projects
  • Support the project delivery team in the management of the contract (including managing warranties), creating commercial value
  • Understand the requirements of the customer and ensure that projects are managed commercially to satisfy those requirements
  • Identify any potential disputes, provide appropriate reports and ensure that issues are escalated appropriately
  • Ensure appropriate management of commercial risks
  • Ensuring Balfour Beatty Group Minimum Commercial Expectations are applied consistently across projects under management

  • Responsible for management of staff as may be required
  • Support teams as required to ensure best possible commercial outcome is achieved at all times
  • Assist in completing reports and necessary commercial requirements to ensure commercial strategies and plan are put in place at the earliest opportunity
  • Assist in bid management and carry out tender commercial reviews on Contract and risk management as required from time to time
  • Carry out commercial audits that may be required from time to time
  • Manage BBG process and comply with necessary governance gateways and requirements

Who we're looking for

This is a management position for an individual with a strong commercial management background within the ci environment combined with proven experience of management of commercial teams and delivery of Civil Engineering business requirements.

The individual should have proven experience in their ability to lead, influence and communicate with others. Demonstrable experience in a specific sector may be required.

The individual will have appropriate qualifications, and professional membership of the CICES or RICS, CIOB is desirable.
