Purpose of the Role

The Commercial Manager plays a pivotal role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of SCX’s high-profile projects. This includes budget oversight, contract administration, risk management, and stakeholder collaboration. Reporting into the Senior Leadership Team and working closely with Project Managers, the role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full contractual compliance.

This is a strategic opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to influence KSG’s commercial performance and contribute to the successful delivery of complex engineering projects.


Key Responsibilities


Budget Management

  • Develop, monitor, and maintain detailed project budgets.
  • Track actual costs against planned budgets, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.
  • Forecast future project expenditure and prepare accurate cost reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Contract Administration

  • Interpret, manage, and ensure compliance with a range of contracts including NEC, JCT, and bespoke forms.
  • Administer contract variations and changes, including issuing instructions and negotiating terms with clients.
  • Manage contractual correspondence and ensure timely compliance with all obligations.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities across project lifecycles.

Value Engineering

  • Analyse and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Evaluate alternative solutions to optimise value for the business and client.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and the wider project team to deliver commercially sound outcomes.
  • Provide clear cost and commercial updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support project delivery teams with contract interpretation and commercial strategy.

Risk & Opportunity Management

  • Proactively identify commercial risks, assess impact, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and report on risk exposure across live projects and commercial operations.
  • Highlight opportunities to enhance project value and protect commercial interests.


Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a commercial or contract management role within engineering, construction, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of industry practices, materials, and standards.
  • Experience administering NEC, JCT, and bespoke contracts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for stakeholder engagement and negotiation.
  • Proficiency in commercial/project management software and tools.
  • Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or Engineering.


Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional accreditation (e.g. MRICS, MCIOB) or working toward chartership.
  • Experience working within regulated sectors such as Nuclear or Defence.
  • Background in supporting international or multi-stakeholder projects.
