Due to significant growth across our Transmission and Distribution business, Wood is seeking a Commercial Manager to support our growing workload overseeing the delivery of significant scopes on a large overhead line project in Scotland. This role will require regular presence at the project office in Alness, and visits to site locations. Occasional business travel may be required for client and subcontractor meetings.

Wood Transmission and Distribution is seeking an established Commercial Manager to join our growing business. As a leading provider of engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, we are at the forefront of net zero 2050 with a secured workstream for years to come.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Commercial Manager, you will be delivering the project’s portfolio of key civil scopes, driving commercial success and managing project risks by managing change, resolving disputes, implementing effective governance, overseeing performance, directing subcontract activities throughout their lifecycle, and aligning commercial strategies with project and business unit objectives.
This role is perfect for an established Commercial Manager from a civils or construction background with experience of delivering large projects, managing the commercial performance and overseeing a number of large subcontracts. The preferred candidate will have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or Business Studies, alongside substantial relevant experience, including proven experience in leadership roles, expertise in contract administration and negotiations, a commitment to corporate values, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. The ideal candidate will also possess extensive EPC experience, demonstrating independence, proactivity, and strong leadership in managing large-scale subcontracts.

You will be managing the commercial delivery of some of Wood Transmission and Distribution Ltd’s largest subcontracts on an EPC project on a target cost model based on NEC forms of contract, ensuring performance and returns for Wood. Responsibilities
Typical Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial interface with key subcontractors.
- Manage approval reviews in line with company delegations of authority.
- Ensure compliance with Wood's commercial policies and processes, including risk management and contractual negotiation strategies
- Manage subcontract administration, including commercial deliverables, correspondence, and change management
- Support project commercial strategies, including cost analysis, cashflow forecasts, and invoice management
- Develop subcontracting strategies, compile subcontract documents, and ensure proper cost management
- Prepare and analyse inputs for contract and project reporting, and support in monthly project reviews
- Manage claims in conjunction with the wider commercial team

Expected
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or Business Studies, with a preferred professional qualification
- Substantial experience in a similar role, including proven capacity in a leadership/management position
- Demonstrated experience in contract administration, change management, and negotiations
- Working knowledge of NEC forms of contract
- Experience in claims and dispute resolution
- Utmost integrity and extensive commercial management experience
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and presentation)
- Awareness of relevant corporate and project procedures
- Commitment to Wood and client core values, as well as Wood Commercial process and procedures
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
