About The Role
We are looking for a
Commercial Services Manager to join our team and provide expert commercial and contractual support across our business. This role is key to ensuring commercial governance, legal compliance, and risk management are embedded in our project delivery and work-winning activities.
What you'll be doing
- Ensure Balfour Beatty Group Minimum Commercial Expectations and company requirements are applied consistently through advice, reviews, and audits.
- Provide commercial support to work-winning teams, including:
- Reviewing contracts
- Negotiating revised conditions and qualifications
- Supporting Tender Joint Ventures and Design Agreements
- Assessing commercial risks for tender review meetings.
- Provide commercial support to project commercial teams across the business.
- Lead subcontracting strategy for strategic bids and ensure consistency in subcontract reviews for live projects.
- Assist in customer and stakeholder management.
- Support the development of dispute management processes and responses.
- Review commercial mechanisms (contracts, bonds, warranties) to ensure consistency across sectors.
- Contribute to Group initiatives and promote LEAN and digital opportunities.
- Assist in the development and delivery of commercial training, including systems and process training.
Who we're looking for
- Strong foundational knowledge in pre- and post-contract commercial governance, compliance, and relevant legal and legislative frameworks.
- Developing understanding of contracts, compensation mechanisms, legal obligations, and liability management.
- Excellent understanding of the commercial function within a complex business environment.
- Proven ability to influence and communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in negotiating complex contracts and identifying commercial opportunities and risks within tight tender timeframes.
- Commercial awareness and significant contract experience to support project teams and manage risk effectively.
Desired
- Law degree (LLB), Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), Legal Practice Course (LPC), Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), or equivalent legal qualification.
- Familiarity with UK contract law, procurement legislation, and commercial strategy.
