In Community Plus we use an asset and strength-based approach to working with individuals and communities. Our engagement with individuals and communities aims to explore community-based solutions and in doing so, we seek to reduce the demand on statutory provision. Community Plus seeks to act as the connecting layer between services and community and is for people of all ages and abilities.
As a Community Connector you will be place- based and work alongside local people, identify local groups and local resources, explore peer and neighbourhood support and seek to develop community networking. You will work within the councils Inclusive Communities Framework (ICF) and use Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approaches. Your focus will be on prevention and early help, understanding and acting on when individuals or communities need support. You will support individuals and communities to develop their own support activities, providing the building blocks they need to thrive.
Requirements For This Role
- Skilled in delivering and advocating asset-based approaches – focussed on mobilising the skills and assets of individuals and communities and building their personal resilience
- Experienced in community organising, community development or volunteer co-ordination, and able to motivate, mobilise and co-ordinate efforts across communities, volunteers and diverse stakeholders
- High energy, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Empathic and able to relate to individuals, groups and organisations in a variety of different circumstances
- Knowledgeable and understanding of the issues affecting the lives of the target populations and the services, initiatives and policies that impact on them.
- Experience of working in diverse communities; understanding different cultures, faiths, and migration, and championing inclusion.
- Experience in 1:1 support conversations including coaching techniques
- Experience in managing a caseload of 1:1 clients
