Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to deliver £3bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030 in addition to our existing Managed Service Provider (MSP) framework contract, where Costain provides the overall management and delivery of United Utilities’ larger-scale water and wastewater asset maintenance activities across the entirety of its network.

The Community Relations and Stakeholder Officer is responsible for supporting the Community Relations Manager with the relationship between the project and external and internal stakeholders including members of the public and the local community affected by the construction scheme, the client and any additional interested parties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage dissemination of relevant up to date information between project delivery teams and client/external parties
  • Assist with client communications including the preparation of public consultation material and associated publicity
  • Arrange or attend Public Meetings and Exhibitions, meetings (online and in-person) as required and occasional visits to residents / community organisations
  • Assist project delivery teams with communications with relevant external 3rd Parties (including statutory stakeholders, local authorities, businesses/communities) or through respective client teams (including Planning, Landscape & Ecology, Streetworks and Access & Acquisitions)
  • Respond to complaints and enquiries (including liaison with relevant UU teams on formal responses)
  • Maintain contacts sheets / project trackers and support the Community Relations & Stakeholder manager with regular reporting and customer milestones
  • Undertake site audits to ensure correct signage is installed and relevant information is displayed
  • Production of information sheets and internal team communication
  • Organising volunteers / STEM Ambassadors and Apprentices / Work experience placements
  • Charity / Corporate Social Responsibility involvement (including building and maintaining relationships with local organisations and identifying social value opportunities)
  • Support the submission of awards and production of case studies.
  • Contribute to production and submission of Key Performance Indicators and reports

Qualifications

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be able to manage a heavy workload, have excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills and IT skills
  • Experience of using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams packages
  • A proactive approach to supporting the cradle to grave project managers
  • A positive approach to supporting team members and working independently to meet or exceed all the requirements of internal audits and Client expectations
  • You will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate confidently and assertively with a variety of people at all levels
  • A friendly and approachable attitude with a “can do” attitude.
  • Previous experience working in construction / major projects (desirable)
  • Interest in social value
