Construction Project Engineer (Civil or other equivalent engineering discipline) to assist in delivering engineering and construction support for one of the UK’s largest clean water infrastructure projects, ensuring projects are designed, built, and commissioned to meet stringent drinking water quality, regulatory, and operational requirements.

Project Engineer to have a minimum of 4 years plus experience in design and construction management, preferably in the water sector.

Project Engineer to support the construction team and work with the preconstruction team in developing design solutions and constructability. Ideally worked in the water industry and aware of the process and procedures for delivery water projects in UK.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Engineer to support the delivery of one of the UK’s largest clean water infrastructure projects. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile programme that ensures the design, construction, and commissioning of assets meet stringent drinking water quality, regulatory, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Package Engineering & Coordination
  • Collaborate with design teams to develop efficient construction solutions.
  • Prepare and manage works packages for tendering and delivery.
  • Review and coordinate technical submissions from designers and subcontractors.
  • Manage interfaces between construction packages and liaise with suppliers.
  • Attend engineering meetings in the UK and Spain, and contribute to client discussions.
  • Support procurement and contract negotiations with subcontractors.
  • Assist in site operations, RAMS preparation, temporary works, and logistics.
  • Lead site teams and ensure high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Programme Delivery
  • Monitor progress against the master programme.
  • Identify and resolve blockers to maintain schedule.
  • Coordinate with planning teams to update milestones and reporting.
  • Commercial & Contract Management
  • Support NEC subcontract management including change control and payment applications.
  • Assist with cost forecasting and earned value tracking.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams on valuations and change management.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a key liaison between design consultants, subcontractors, site teams, and Thames Water.
  • Chair and attend progress meetings, reporting to project leadership.
  • Coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Governance & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with CDM and Thames Water SHE standards.
  • Maintain documentation including RAMS, ITPs, commissioning records, and as-builts.
  • Commissioning & Handover
  • Oversee commissioning plans and testing.
  • Manage snagging and final handover documentation.

Required Skills And Competencies

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or HNC in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in design and construction management, ideally in the water sector.
  • Proven track record on major (£50m+) infrastructure or utilities projects.
  • Familiarity with UK water sector standards and clean water treatment processes.
  • Experience with NEC contract management.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card) / Thames Water Passport.
  • SMSTS certification.
  • CSCS card (Gold or Black).
  • First Aid at Work certificate.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a management contracting or delivery partner environment.
  • Understanding of Thames Water delivery processes and procedures.
