THE POST

We are seeking to appoint a 2 Consultant Histopathologists to join our experienced and highly motivated team at MFT Histopathology with the roles based at our Oxford Road Campus (ORC) and Wythenshawe Hospital sites. The 10 PA posts will join the histopathology reporting team with a predominant contribution to Gastrointestinal, non-transplant medical liver and hepataopancreatobillary sub-specialist services. The post holder will also be required to report non-gynaecological cytology matching to the histology specialities covered. Contribution to each sub speciality will be discuss with the successful appointee based on expertise and service requirements.

Main Responsibilities

You will join a team of 46 other full and part time Consultants in the MFT Histopathology service. In particular we are looking for candidates who can provide a reporting service for Gastrointestinal, non-transplant medical liver and Hepatopancreatobillary sub-specialities.

The Main Responsibilities Of This Post Would Be

  • Together with other Consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing sub specialised histopathology for its clinical users. (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and local General Practices). This may include review of slides of patients who are referred in to MFT for further investigation or treatment from other hospitals. The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in cancer multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) in line with their areas of subspecialisation which may involve travel to other sites.
  • Participate in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and training. The Trust is committed to teaching Specialty Trainees in Histopathology under the aegis of HENW (Health Education North West). The appointee will also be expected to teach histopathology to other allied health professionals. In line with this, there will be provision to review the SPA allocation in the job plan if an appointee takes up such extra responsibilities leading to increased teaching duties.
