Consultant In Clinical Toxicology & General Internal Medicine
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Consultant to join our Clinical Toxicology and General Internal Medicine team. Applications are welcomed from candidates with recognized training and broad experience in clinical toxicology and internal medicine, with full registration with the GMC. Applicants must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register via a CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) in Clinical Toxicology and General (Internal) Medicine; CESR or European Community Rights.
This post is based both at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Grove Lane, Smethwick and the City Health Campus, Dudley Road, Birmingham. The appointee will act as Consultant Clinical Toxicologist to the National Poisons Information Service (Birmingham Unit) and will also be responsible on a rota basis for the care of toxicology and medical outlier patients on the Clinical Toxicology ward at MMUH, C8, that is shared with gastroenterology. They will also contribute to the general internal medicine on call rota of MMUH.
- To provide, with the other Consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency Clinical Toxicology and GIM services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out-of-hours cover, and cover for annual, study and professional leave.
- To provide Consultant support to the Alcohol and Drug nurse-led service within the Trust.
- To participate in the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, nurses, paramedics and general practitioners.
- To participate in research in accordance with priorities agreed within the NPIS and Trust Clinical Groups within available resources.
- To contribute to the development of Clinical Toxicology services, treatment guidelines and the promotion of greater knowledge of the management of Clinical Toxicology conditions and alcohol and drug-related ill-health in primary care.
- To demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of clinical governance.
