This is an exciting opportunity to join our enthusiastic and friendly team within the department of Geriatric Medicine at UHL. We are looking to build on our current team of 25 consultants, with consultant appointments working within our inpatient and community services - improving the care for older people living with frailty within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR).
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Consultant Geriatricians also provide input into the 8 community hospitals within LLR, and the frailty virtual ward, both of which support step up and step down patients who need care closer to home. We have developed our acute services for older people including our Frailty Emergency Squad - providing early specialist input for older people living with frailty who attend the Emergency department and an Acute frailty Unit for those patients' requiring admission.
The Older persons wards are based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The successful applicant will work alongside medical and MDT colleagues on the geriatric wards at LRI - supported by specialty training registrars and resident doctors. There is a possibility of working in the community hospitals - supported by Advanced nurse practitioners and MDT colleagues.
The successful applicants will work with colleagues on the geriatric inpatient base wards and will play a key role in helping to deliver geriatric medicine education, to help train other medical staff.
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR). It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
Education: Teaching and Training
All Consultants are expected to contribute to teaching and training of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees as part of their role as a Consultant in UHL.
Consultants will normally have undergraduate medical students placed with them during clinical duties and are expected to teach alongside clinical service work. Similarly, Consultants will normally be involved in clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees working within UHL.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We Have Four Primary Goals
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
