Job Overview

Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with Special Interest in Urogynaecology

We are in the process of recruiting a replacement consultant to join our existing team following a retirement. This is a full time substantive post with commitment in both obstetrics and gynaecology.

The applicant must have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and must be registered in the GMC’s specialist register or be within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview. We are particularly seeking a colleague with interest in urogynaecology care, in addition to a broad range of generic skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

This is a substantive post supporting the current Gynaecology service with Obstetric component. The post holder will be supporting consultant delivered care and junior doctor training through alternative models of working. There will be a general commitment in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The on call frequency is around 1:10. The consultant during non-resident out of hours is expected to be available within 30 minutes of being called. The appointee will take full responsibility for clinical care of patients during their duties. Additional support and mentoring will also be available as appropriate based on the appointee’s experience.

The consultant is expected to be physically on site while providing labour ward cover during working hours.

Main duties of the job

The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is essential. Applicants must be both flexible in their approach and be ready to meet the challenges presented by the evolving health service changes in North Wales. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of work including outpatient clinic sessions in obstetrics and gynaecology, labour ward and gynaecology operating theatre lists in addition to the hybrid resident/ non-resident on-call rota. At present all consultant participate in twilight cover as resident on call.

The rota frequency and work pattern out of hours is reviewed on a regular basis and changes may be necessary in future to adapt to changes in the department.

Knowledge /Qualification

Essential Criteria

  • MRCOG or equivalent appropriate specialist registration
  • Inclusion on Specialist Register of GMC or eligible for award of CCT within 6 months of interview date
  • Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC
  • RCOG Urogynaecology ATSM or equivalent.
  • CCT or equivalent (the GMC must confirm equivalence by the date of the AAC)

Desirable criteria

  • RCOG Benign Gynaecology ATSM or Equivalent
  • Additional relevant degree(s)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR/STR leading to accreditation for CCT, CESR or recognised equivalent
  • Equivalent training accepted by College/GMC for Specialist Register (CESR)
  • CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of audit/Quality improvement projects

Essential Criteria

Clinical experience and effectiveness

  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST
  • Statement regarding appropriate training and experience, including that relating to a specialist interest
  • Completed ATSMs appropriate to the post

Desirable criteria

  • Computer skills
  • Evidence of effective service development
  • Additional clinical experience/training that may be required

  • Proven engagement in management activities
