Job Overview
We are currently seeking a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology who has a demonstrable interest in Early Pregnancy Unit and Emergency Gynaecology Services and Benign Gynaecology
The Early Pregnancy and Urgent Gynaecology Care Centre at Frimley Park Hospital operates daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with dedicated staff, including a receptionist, nurses, and consultant presence. It receives direct referrals to help reduce Emergency Department visits and support Same Day Emergency Services. The new appointee is expected to join the weekday rota alongside consultants with a special interest in this area.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will allocate 8.5 programmed activities (PAs) for direct clinical care and up to 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities. The final plan will be agreed upon with the Chief of Service and Chief Executive (or their representative) after Directorate discussions. The work pattern may change over time, with annual reviews conducted in line with consultant contracts, job planning, and appraisals.

The successful candidate will take part in the obstetrics and gynaecology on-call rota including resident weekends.
Teaching: The successful candidate will be actively involved in teaching resident doctors, and Southampton University medical students, including sessions in the Dry Skills Laboratory and Simulation Suite.
Audit: A half-day per month is allocated for audit and medical education, with only clinical emergencies attended during this time. Ongoing CME/CPD participation is expected.
Research: The clinical nature of the post should not discourage those wishing to partake in active research particularly when incorporating trainees and encouraging them to do likewise. The department has participated in several national and international research trials in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Office, computer and secretarial support are provided.

Direct Clinical Care – DCC Activity is work directly relating to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness that forms part of the services provided by the employing organisation under section 3(1) or section 5(1) (b) of the National Health Service Act 1977. This includes:
- Emergency duties (including emergency work carried out during or arising from on call)
- Operating sessions including pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Ward rounds
- Outpatient activities
- Clinical diagnostic work
- Other patient treatment
- Multi-disciplinary meetings or other meetings which relate directly to patient care
- Administration directly related to the above (including but not limited to referrals & notes)
Supporting Professional Activities – These are activities that underpin Direct clinical care. This may include participation in training, medical education, CPD, formal teaching, audit, job planning, appraisal, research, clinical management and local governance activities.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Entry on Specialist Register (CCT or entry expected within 6 months of interview date) or, for Mediated Entrants, entry on Specialist Registrar prior to application
- MRCOG or equivalent
- ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice and ATSM in Benign Gynaecology open and laparoscopic surgery
Desirable criteria
- Clinical research in the fields of special interest

Professional/Specialist/Functional Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that for gaining UK CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Direct experience of audit
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates, and Obstetric & Gynaecological operative skills to trainee specialists.
Desirable criteria
- Participation in multidisciplinary team activities
- Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, directorate and working parties as appropriate
