An opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to provide maternity cover as Consultant Pharmacist for Genomics and Pharmacogenomics for the North East and Yorkshire Genomics Medicines Service Alliance.
This will be until the end of March 2026 in the first instance with a possibility for extension until September 2026. As the Consultant Pharmacist, you will be the expert in pharmacogenomics and genomic medicine, provide strategic advice to the Chief Pharmacists, clinical leadership team and the system wide network for pharmacy in the GMS Alliance.
You will work across traditional boundaries to embed pharmacogenomics into routine clinical practice and will identify and prioritise innovative strategic development of the clinical pharmacy service to genomics.
You will have a post graduate diploma or equivalent in clinical pharmacy practice and post graduate training in genomics or equivalent clinical experience. You will have appropriate and current clinical experience in Genomics or related field.
- To provide and be accountable for delivering the GMS Alliance priorities and transformation projects relevant to the pharmacy service and lead pharmacy service for Genomics, acting as a clinical role model, working across the multidisciplinary GMS Alliance team and inspiring others to excel in practice.
- Provide national consultation in relation to expert knowledge around medication and management of patients with relevant genomic data to clinical services and national bodies to support both individual cases and develop guidelines for large patient groups where national guidance does not exist.
- To demonstrate a whole-system patient-focused approach.
- To demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement and to demonstrate the ability to make decisions in the absence of evidence or when data are conflicting.
- To identify new prescribing practices and ensure and monitor the safe, efficient and economical use of medicines in Genomics, following national and local guidelines, working with appropriate colleagues.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 7 months (until March 2026) due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
