We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Control Instrumentation Software Engineer to join a dynamic test and design team in Cambridge. This role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies in optics, displays, and electronics, supporting innovative projects that shape the future of consumer electronics, automotive, and digital signage.

You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team providing support for optoelectronic testing of modules and systems. This is a practical, lab-based role working closely with engineers to develop and maintain software for instrument control. Reporting into the Test and Design Manager, you’ll contribute directly to optimising system performance and standardising test routines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain software for instrument control and equipment
• Integrate software with hardware components
• Create user interfaces for monitoring and control
• Debug and troubleshoot software and hardware issues
• Work with colleagues to optimise overall system performance
• Document and control software in line with standards
• Contribute to customer-facing projects when required
• Ensure all practices meet health, safety, and quality standards

Skills & Experience Required

• Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB and/or C#, SQL
• Experience with instrument control in a laboratory or technical environment
• Experience using version control systems
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal
• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail

Desirable

• Database experience
• Willingness to carry out optoelectronic testing when required
