Cyber Risk Manager

As Cyber Risk Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the secure development, testing, and delivery of data services and products, as well as managing the operation of our secure offices. You will ensure that HMRC and wider government security policies are enforced and championed, raising awareness and embedding a culture of security across all our teams.

You will be the catalyst for effective risk management, reducing DPS's exposure to risk through clear processes and behaviours. Your work will directly influence senior stakeholders, drive continuous improvement, and help shape the future of data security within HMRC.

Person specification

• Lead and embed risk management: Champion risk as an integral part of planning and performance, ensuring risk management is proactive and audit-ready.
• Drive security awareness: Develop and deliver engaging security awareness programmes for all DPS teams.
• Collaborate widely: Work cross-functionally with Business Owners and Supplier Operations, Core and Intelligence Product Engineering, Estates, Cyber Security, and third-party suppliers.
• Advise and influence: Translate HMRC security requirements into clear, enforceable processes and provide expert advice on security strategies and risk decisions.

Broad knowledge of security technologies, vulnerabilities, and controls frameworks (ISO 27001, NCSC, CIS, NIST, OWASP).

Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

Desirable:

• Experience solving security challenges in large-scale IT organisations.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CCP, CISMP, CISM, ISO27001 LI/LA, CompTIA Security+).

Technical questions will be based on the general understanding of cyber risks.

When answering you will be required to provide a specific instance from your career which demonstrates the technical skill, experience or behaviour in question. You would be advised prepare specific examples from you career in advance.

You will be advised to apply the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique when delivering examples. You would be encouraged to prepare demonstratable examples of your experience ahead of the interview to ensure meaningfulness and completeness.
