Location: Remote...ish. If you can get yourself to Cambridge a couple of times a month we're cool with that.

Salary: £75,000

We’re building something proper here. Not just another SOC full of blinking lights and dashboards no one checks. We're talking real security operations - the kind where automation isn’t a "nice to have", it's the backbone of how we work.

We’ve got a few things right already:

• A team that gives a damn
• Management that listens
• And a security culture that doesn’t point fingers when things go sideways

But here’s where you come in. We're looking for someone who knows how to build, break, and fix - at scale. Someone who wants to spend less time talking about SIEM alerts and more time making them actually useful.

What you’ll actually be doing:

• Writing security automations that do things, not just log things
• Building and tuning SIEM detections that catch bad stuff before it hits the fan
• Designing workflows that make our incident response less painful (for everyone)
• Working with threat intel and IR folks who actually know what they’re doing
• Killing repetitive tasks dead, so our analysts can get on with the interesting bits
• Looking at what we’ve built and going, “Yeah, that could be better” - and then making it better
• Joining the on-call rotation - because incidents don’t respect business hours (but we don’t abuse it either)

What we’re looking for:

• You’ve been in the cyber trenches for 3+ years - security ops, detection engineering, automation, whatever - as long as it wasn’t all PowerPoint
• You actually know how SIEMs work (and how they don't!)
• You’ve automated stuff in the past and lived to tell the tale
• You know your way around AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud - ideally all three
• You understand what makes a good detection rule (and what makes a noisy one)
• You work well with others, even when their baby detection script isn’t as cute as they think it is

This is a role for someone who wants to build the kind of security function you’d actually want to work in.
