An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Clinic Nurse to join the Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre's multidisciplinary team.
The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre has over 480 patients with numbers increasing year on year, with the catchment area covering the Northwest.
The Outpatient Department within the Centre is unique in that although we are classed as an outpatient department, we are more aligned to being a Regional Treatment centre which offers individualised, holistic patient centred care tailored to patient’s needs. Incorporated into the Outpatients Service are two, day case rooms on Pearce Ward.
We are looking for a self-motivated, individual to join the CF nursing team. You will need to be flexible, a team player, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice
You will be involved in the working of the CF Outpatient Clinic, delivering highly skilled nursing care to patients attending our unit.
You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge working in a specialised area within the respiratory division. We provide an individualised education and training programme tailored to your clinical and learning needs to help in the management of patients with Cystic Fibrosis.
The successful candidate will work 37.5 hours over a 5-day period Monday to Friday. Starting and finishing times may vary to reflect the needs of the service.
Set up of Outpatient clinic including undertaking safety checks
Working as part of the CF nursing team you will be involved in the smooth running of a structured clinic adhering to strict microbiological segregation policy.
Undertake Nurse led Annual Assessments including baseline observations and nurses’ assessment
Undertake nursing interventions in the Outpatient’s Clinic such as venepuncture, cannulation, accessing of portacath, ECG, ear lobe gases, change of gastrostomy tube, and vaccinations.
Assist the Cystic Fibrosis Diabetes team by initiating glucose monitoring within the clinic setting when required and referring any abnormal results to the diabetes team.
Maintain a high standard of clinical work and professionalism
May be required to cover day case urgent access beds on Pearce Ward
Provide emotional and psychological support to patients
Undertake and promote practice sensitive to the needs of patients and families from multi-cultural backgrounds
Create and maintain effective communication with multidisciplinary team (MDT), patients and carers to ensure patients receive optimum care.
Support students during placement and maintain educational file.
Attend clinic team huddles/discussions as required.
