FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Architect to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 5-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in any one of the client’s offices around England.
Our client is seeking a Data Architect, who will play a critical role in shaping their data infrastructure, ensuring they have scalable, flexible, and sustainable architecture to support their business intelligence, analytics, and operational systems. This role will require close collaboration with stakeholders across the business, from technology and data teams to senior leaders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data architecture solutions that support the agency’s evolving needs
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models, ensuring consistency and alignment with business requirements
- Collaborate with stakeholders across digital, data, and business teams to translate business goals into robust, scalable data solutions
- Define data architecture patterns and standards that support high-quality, governed data and efficient analytics across the organisation
- Guide and oversee the development of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data automation strategies to improve data delivery and reduce manual processes
- Ensure data architecture aligns with industry best practices, data governance standards, and Homes England’s strategic objectives
- Provide expert input into data platform design and help evaluate new technologies and tools as the organisation scales
- Act as a subject matter expert on data modelling and architectural frameworks across the organisation
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Data Architect role
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data architecture in complex environments
- Deep understanding of data modelling techniques—including conceptual, logical, and physical modelling
- Strong expertise in Kimball methodology and dimensional modelling (e.g. star schema design)
- Experience with modern cloud data platforms, ideally including Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and associated tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse)
- Familiarity with modern data engineering practices including the use of automated data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and DevOps for data
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and security standards in public or regulated environments is highly desirable
