Data Architect – GCP | Data Mesh | Data as a Product

Location: UK – mostly remote | Permanent | £90,000 DOE

VIQU are partnering with a forward-thinking organisation to recruit a Data Architect to join their growing Data & Platform Engineering team. This is a strategic role for an experienced cloud data architect or senior data engineer with hands-on experience in GCP (BigQuery) and a passion for modern Data Mesh architecture.

You’ll help define and implement a scalable, cloud-native data platform, enabling domain teams to deliver data as a product. You’ll set architectural standards, drive data governance, and ensure all data products are discoverable, interoperable, and high-quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement cloud data architecture and Data Mesh platforms in GCP.
Define data platform standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks.
Enable domain teams to design, build, and manage data products with strong quality, metadata, and lineage practices.

Collaborate with engineers, architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver modern cloud-based data solutions.

Provide technical leadership across ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, lakehouses, and data warehouse platforms.

Advise on best practices for data modelling, platform scalability, security, and performance.

Key Skills & Experience:

Proven experience as a Data Architect, Data Solutions Architect, or senior cloud data engineer.
Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with hands-on experience in BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub.
Experience building cloud-native data platforms, lakehouses, and Data Mesh architectures.
Solid understanding of data governance, metadata management, and Data as a Product principles.
Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, batch and streaming pipelines, and modern data architecture.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to business and technical audiences
