As a Data Architect (Data Products) at SBS, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining our overall data architecture, with a strong focus on delivering and operating data products. This includes developing foundational elements that enable scalable, reliable, and well-governed data products. You will ensure data ownership and accountability across domains and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust data-driven solutions.
You will ensure that our data is well-organised, secure, and easily accessible while overseeing the implementation of data mesh principles. Your role will involve managing data consistency across various domains and integrating data from multiple domains. You will optimise data performance and stay abreast of emerging technologies to provide strategic recommendations.
What will the role involve?
- Designing and Maintaining Data Architecture: Developing and overseeing the overall data architecture to support business objectives and ensure data consistency across domains.
- Collaborating with teams to design and operate high-quality data products that meet specific business needs, integrating key enablers such as semantic modelling, metadata, and cataloguing.
- Implementing Data Mesh Principles: Leading the implementation of data mesh principles to manage data as a product, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and discoverable data across various domains.
- Data Security and Accessibility: Ensuring data security, governance, and accessibility, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Data Integration: Overseeing data integration processes, ensuring seamless data flow across multiple sources, including databases, files, and event streams.
- Collaboration: Working closely with data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of data architecture with business needs.
- Technology Leadership: Staying updated with emerging data technologies and providing strategic recommendations for adopting new tools and methodologies.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitoring and optimising data systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
What are we looking for?
- Data Modelling and Lakehouse Design: Strong data modelling, design, and integration expertise.
- Data Mesh Architectures: In-depth understanding of data mesh architectures.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in dbt, SQL, Python/Java, Apache Spark, Trino, Apache Airflow, and Astro.
- Cloud Technologies: Awareness and experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members.
- Experience: Proven experience designing and maintaining data architectures in a complex, multi-source data ecosystem.
