Overview of the vacancy

Job Description
We’re seeking a forward-thinking Data Architect who not only designs scalable data infrastructure but also understands how to extract meaningful insights from it. This hybrid role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering precision and analytical curiosity.
You’ll play a key role in shaping our data ecosystem—ensuring it’s robust, secure, and optimised to support existing and new functionality within Decisio™. With your data science skills you will help guide architectural decisions that maximise the insight and value Decisio™ delivers to our infrastructure clients.
Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the data architecture meets performance, security, and compliance requirements, while enabling advanced analytics and decision-making capabilities. As you develop deep expertise in wastewater systems data, you will have the opportunity to expand your remit to architect and support data solutions across other cloud environments within BMA.
Key responsibilities
The role will require you to be part of a rapidly growing company that has a wide-ranging customer base spread across numerous industry verticals in the water, wastewater & energy sectors.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
· 5+ years in data architecture, engineering, or related roles.
· Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and cloud platforms (e.g. Azure).
· Proven experience in managing solutions deployment through DevOps. GitHub or similar tools.
· Solid understanding of data modelling, normalisation, and schema design.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Extremely Advantageous
· Experience sourcing and consolidating data from internal and external systems, including APIs and third-party platforms.
· Ability to ensure compatibility and reliability of incoming data streams.
· Track record in evaluating and integrating external tools such as data warehouses, analytics platforms, and machine learning services.
· Experience building connectors/pipelines for system interoperability between in-house & third-party systems.
· Skilled in cleaning, transforming, and preparing data for analysis, considering external formats and quality.
· Ability to maintain scalable workflows that efficiently incorporate third-party components.
· Immediate / near-term availability to join the team.
· Experience working within the water sector with one or more of the large water companies and as such a connected network with other Water sector Data Architects.
· Demonstrated ability to span the divide between semi-technical client personnel and very technical resources, particularly to help ‘unblock’ delays in data collection from clients.
· A proven track record and keen interest in identifying business insights from Data.
