Data Engineer

About the Role:

We’re hiring a Data Engineer who will shape how we build, scale and evolve our data infrastructure across RWS. This isn’t just coding, it’s about creating systems and patterns that empower teams to make data‑driven decisions and raising the bar for our entire data organisation.

You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics and Business leaders to turn strategy into robust, scalable data solutions. With real autonomy, you’ll influence how we manage data at enterprise scale, connect technical excellence to business impact, and help grow the next generation of data engineering talent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and evolve our data architecture to support analytics, BI and ML at scale.
• Work across teams to align data solutions with business and product goals.
• Make strategic technical decisions through clear documentation and forward planning.
• Ensure reliability and performance of core data systems, with strong observability and resilience.
• Mentor and develop data engineers to raise the capability of the whole team.
• Drive operational excellence in data quality, monitoring, incident response, and cost efficiency.

Skills & Experience:

Essential

• Strong experience designing large‑scale cloud data platforms with sound architectural judgement.
• Deep data engineering skills across modelling, pipelines, distributed systems, and scaling infrastructure.
• Cross‑functional leadership with the ability to influence direction across teams.
• Proven mentorship impact, helping develop senior engineers and improving team effectiveness.
• Excellent communication for documentation, presentations, and decision‑making.
• Strong business and product understanding to prioritise work and link technical choices to outcomes.

Nice to Have

• Experience of BigQuery, Dataform or Cloud Composer.
• Metadata management expertise using tools like DataHub or Alation.
• Familiarity with modern orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
• Cloud‑native compute experience including serverless, containers, and IaC.
• Exposure to data mesh principles or decentralised architectures.
