The Role
The London office Data Management Team manages all the production data for the Company’s global assets. This data comes from their subsidiaries across 15 countries and from new acquisitions.
The Data Engineer Intern will provide essential support in managing, validating, and enhancing geoscience and well data. This role involves manually verifying data accuracy, filling in gaps, and searching for missing records while also supporting automation and data structuring efforts. The role requires someone hands-on who enjoys both technical data engineering work and manual data handling tasks.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining Python and SQL scripts to support data processing, automation, and reporting tasks under the guidance of senior staff.
- Support routine data quality checks - both automated and manual - to help ensure the accuracy, consistency, and usability of geoscience datasets.
- Help clean, format, and transform datasets to improve accessibility and support operational needs.
- Contribute to identifying data gaps by performing research and compiling relevant information from internal and external sources.
- Assist in reviewing, validating, and organizing geoscience records, including physical and digital well data and technical reports.
- Work closely with data management and geoscience team members to provide technical and organizational support on various data-related tasks.
- Follow established company standards and procedures to help ensure compliance with data management policies and best practices.
Qualification / Experience / Specification
Essential:
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Geoscience, or Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience or coursework in SQL and Python.
- Comfortable working with Excel and other Microsoft Office tools for data handling.
- Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to data verification and organization.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and willing to engage in hands-on data management tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle large datasets manually and systematically resolve data inconsistencies.
- Interest in geoscience data management and operations.
- Highly collaborative and team oriented.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Exposure to Snowflake, Azure SQL, or geoscience data platforms.
- Experience with Streamlit and Pandas.
- Knowledge of geoscience and well data (Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Wells, etc.).
- Previous internship or coursework involving data reconciliation, automation, visualisation, validation, or geoscience records management.
