The Role:
- The Data Engineering and Operations Lead role is pivotal at Landsec. As our business strategy is becoming increasingly data-driven, we require experts who can handle vast amounts of data efficiently, ensuring its availability, accuracy, and operational performance. The specialist in this role will focus on designing, implementing, and managing solutions that make data usable and actionable for decision-making purposes. They will ensure that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure, and can serve a wide range of outputs.

The Team:
You will directly manage other Data Engineers (internal and external), and collaborate closely with Data Analysts and Data Scientists, ensuring the data provided aligns with reporting/analytical requirements, ML/AI applications, and business goals.
Location:
This role is based in London, Victoria, and offers hybrid working, with majority of the working week in the office. We recommend discussing arrangements with the hiring manager to find the best fit for both you and the role.
What you will be responsible for:
Designing and Implementing Data Solutions
- Collaborate with Solution architects and Infrastructure engineers to design and maintain large-scale data processing systems and other infrastructure.
- Set up and maintain robust pipelines and processes
- Collaborate with Business Stakeholders and Data Analysts to ensure the data infrastructure meets business requirements.
- Implement solutions that harness Databricks’ unified analytics capabilities.
- Integrate Delta Lake architecture to enhance data reliability and quality.
- Be responsible for Landsec’s data integration capability (Boomi)
- Manage and communicate Data infrastructure health KPIs and proactively propose and gather buy in for improvements
Data Operations and Management
- Ensure data availability, reliability, consistency, & accessibility to various roles within the company.
- Monitor data performance and modify infrastructure as needed.
- Address data-related problems in regard to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration.
- Manage a 3rd party offshore DataOps team
- Handle data-related challenges pertaining to Databricks’ system integration and platform compatibility
Improving Data Quality and Efficiency
- Implement measures to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Test and maintain data pipelines to ensure data integrity and quality.
Team Management
- Manage, Inspire, Motivate and Grow a team of high achieving data engineers
- Manage team capacity and work with the Head of Data to resource all activities in the right fashion (internal / external / hybrid)
- Manage the data engineers careers, drive personal and professional development, make sure they stay at the cutting edge of data technology
- Set up and manage team objectives in line with D&T objectives
Collaborating Across Roles
- Work closely with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and other stakeholders, ensuring that the data infrastructure supports company needs.
- Explain deeply technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Share knowledge, mentor, and train colleagues on best practices related to data engineering and operations.
- Train and mentor colleagues on best Databricks practices.
Your skills, experience and qualifications:
Essential criteria
- Previous experience with data engineering roles.
- Expert SQL and Python (Pyspark) for data engineering and data warehousing.
- High familiarity with ETL tools and processes, especially in Microsoft Azure and Databricks
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Databricks expert for operations and data engineering with deep knowledge of advanced streaming and optimisation features.
- Deep knowledge of Medalion architecture and experience deploying it.
- Knowledge of financial and transactional data integration to support central Finance functions.
- Proven track record of managing third party relationships
Desirable
- Experience in cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, GCP, with a preference for Azure.
- Databricks certification.
- Knowledge of MLflow and its integration within Databricks.
- Knowledge of modern data repositories (e.g., Data Lakes, Data Warehouses).
- Experience in an Agile development environment.
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- Understanding of Data Science models, algorithms, processes and libraries (Scikit Learn, Deep Learning)
- Understanding of Machine Learning Engineering
- Experience working experience with Boomi
