National Grid’s Data Connect Innovation (DCI) mission is to empower innovators across National Grid to pioneer new ideas. We do this through our DCI lab, where we enable rapid proof of concepts (POC’s) to experiment with novel technologies and partners, accelerate value and collaborate to create new data-driven products. DCI pushes the boundaries of what’s possible with data in National Grid and chart our course through the advancements in data technologies that have potential to reshape the organisation and change the way we serve our customers and enable our employees.

Job Purpose

As a Data Innovation Business Analyst, you will be at the forefront of innovation, identifying, prioritising, and executing successful POC’s to identify valuable opportunities for National Grid. You will guide ideas through their entire journey—from initial discussions and scoping with business owners, to engaging with partners, managing projects, delivering our communication strategy and ensuring successful completion and value identification.

This role requires exceptional communication and stakeholder management as you’ll be engaging with people at all levels across our entire business and partner network. You’ll be working as part of multi-disciplinary teams to drive specific outcomes, including Product Owners, Data scientists, Data Product Designers, Data Engineers, Developers, Business Analysts and subject matter experts.

The Data Innovation Business Analyst will be curious by default, with experience in collaborating across teams, preferably with experience in a regulatory and complex ecosystem. You will work with idea owners to interpret and understand business issues and support the translation of these into hypotheses which can be tested through POC’s in the DCI lab. You will be confident working in a dynamic environment, which continues to evolve and innovate within itself. You will be proactive, be able to manage multiple POC’s at one time and have confidence to challenge project teams to ensure successful delivery of POC’s.

The Data Innovation Business Analyst should have a keen interest in new and emerging technologies and have a passion to understand business challenges and strategic opportunities and how we can use innovation to deliver positive business outcomes and value.

What You'll Do

  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels across the organization
  • Support in the interpretation and scoping of innovative ideas into testable hypotheses
  • Manage the entire journey of multiple POC’s simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery
  • Lead on the request for proposals process in the partner selection for POC delivery
  • Be a key member of the POC delivery teams, aligning on initiative needs and timescales and reporting on progress to the DCI lab and supporting completion of relevant artefacts
  • Support the onboarding of partners and team members
  • Support requests for technology workspaces and approvals to enable delivery
  • Attend DCI lab meetings and represent business ideas, including presenting initiative findings at showcases
  • Support the execution of the communication strategy for the DCI lab
  • Have a pulse on the latest data-driven technologies, use cases and outcomes cross industry that can be relevant to National Grid
  • Be aware of the latest AI and data technologies and how they can be applied for business values

About You

  • Innovation and growth mindset, with experience of working with multidisciplinary teams to drive outcomes
  • Experience of interpreting complex business problem statements and scoping these into hypotheses to be tested via rapid prototypes
  • Experience with or understanding of the latest data, AI and next generation technologies
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to excite and inspire
  • Hands-on innovation experience
  • An inquisitive mind and passion for working in a dynamic, fast paced and evolving environment
  • A passion and enthusiasm to embrace the unknown in a highly varied and exciting role
  • A commercial mindset, with an understanding of value identification and business opportunity
  • Strong team working experience where you understand your strengths and weaknesses and what you can contribute to the team as well as what they could do to support you
  • Awareness of the latest AI and data technologies and how they can be applied for business value

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £50,000 – 65,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
