About The Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection Officer to join our growing team in London.
As a Data Protection Officer you will be a senior member of the UK legal and compliance team is responsible for overseeing and maintaining Balfour Beatty’s UK privacy programme. This role involves providing support to the UK business and enabling functions by offering professional guidance, practical advice, and assistance to promote a culture of awareness and compliance regarding data protection issues
What you'll be doing
As a Data Protection Officer You Will
- Carry out all the responsibilities of the Data Protection Officer
- Support with delivery of the wider legal & compliance programme and other reasonable duties as may be required.
Data Protection Responsibilities To Include
- Development and management of the data protection and privacy framework to ensure compliance with the GDPR and other applicable privacy, AI and cyber security legislation & guidance
- Delivering proactive and pragmatic advice to maximise compliance and minimise disruption and costs to the business.
- Overseeing and supporting a network of Privacy Champions on data protection compliance matters.
- Embedding a culture of privacy compliance & awareness into Balfour Beatty by presenting at leadership meetings on privacy initiatives and delivering a structured communications plan and Yammer campaign.
- Advising on the Group’s responsibilities as a processor of client data.
- Providing necessary and relevant data protection training.
- Regular reporting to Balfour Beatty plc and leadership on key privacy risks and mitigation of the same.
- Reviewing and negotiating data protection contractual arrangements (i.e. with clients, suppliers and joint venture partners) and training key interested parties to enable them to understand the implications of the data control and processing.
- Review and manage website privacy notices in conjunction with the Communications Team, together with reviewing other bespoke privacy notices for different business areas.
- Managing and undertaking supplier audits.
- Managing Balfour Beatty’s OneTrust system as a central repository for data protection impact assessments and data mapping.
- Oversight and management of Balfour Beatty’s records of processing.
- Reviewing, assessing and supporting completion of data protection impact assessments.
- Managing and overseeing responses to data subject access requests and queries.
- Submitting notifications to data protection regulators.
- Managing and undertaking data incident investigations, including risk assessing and managing any notifications required to the regulator.
- Reviewing and developing arrangements for cross border data transfers.
- Draft, review and updating of policies on data protection, privacy including GDPR, data breach and data subject rights, retention policies amongst others.
Who we're looking for
Qualifications And Experience
- Strong data protection technical skills including a deep understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, E-Privacy and Freedom of Information legislation,
- Previous experience in day-to-day management of a data protection programme
- Knowledge of construction/infrastructure industry and/or experience of working with a contracting business desirable but not required.
