This is a re-posting of this opportunity. At this time we are only looking for a demonstrator to support the course Data Science for the Past in Semester 1 of 2025/2026, beginning Week 1 and finishing Week 11. The expected allocation for this course is 58 hours.
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is looking for Guaranteed Hours Demonstrators to support Archaeology teaching through demonstration of the use of practical equipment, experiments, exercises and/or processes that usually form an element of postgraduate and some undergraduate courses and are in line with specific learning objectives, set by others.

To oversee students carrying out such exercises etc., and offer assistance as appropriate, including the provision of detailed explanation of how the activity relates to the wider area of study.

This is a guaranteed hours role, paid hourly, at Grade UE06 with a range of £34,132 - 39,355 per annum, pro rata as part time (
£18.70 to £21.56 per hour plus annual leave allowance).
Your Skills And Attributes For Success
- Degree relevant to teaching area.
- Depending on the nature of the work area the post-holder will have the ability to assemble and use relevant lab/computer equipment relevant to the experiments, exercises and/or processes.
- Sufficient knowledge and skills to adequately explain clearly the item/issue being demonstrated matching that to the needs of the specific group including provision of more detailed explanation of how the activity relates to the wider area of study/underlying theory or understanding of relevant principles and techniques along with the ability to guide students in their areas.

About The Team
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is part of the College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, founded in August 2002. It is co-located in a completely refurbished 'A' listed building designed by the distinguished Scottish architect, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson in the nineteenth century, with state of the art facilities for staff and students.
The School combines the expertise of the departments of History, Classics and Archaeology.
Though each department has its own areas of special concern, there are many activities and interests in common and important synergies between disciplines. There is a full programme of seminars and conferences, and close links are also maintained with subjects in other Schools.
We are one of the largest, most distinguished and most highly ranked centres for the study of the human past in Europe, with over 140 teaching, research and administrative staff. Teaching is provided to around 1500 undergraduate and over 300 postgraduate students drawn from some 40 countries. Around 600 of our students are from outside the UK, reflecting the School's high international reputation.
The range of choice in our programmes is remarkably diverse while at the same time the structure allows for study in depth of particular areas, themes and periods. The departments have an outstanding international reputation for research and enjoy a very lively research culture.
