Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dental Technician to join our Dental Laboratory team, in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery & Orthodontic department.
Working closely with clinical colleagues, the post holder's primary responsibility will be the provision and daily management of the Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontic technical service.
The department is staffed by a friendly and professional team and the Laboratory team consists of 1 Dental Laboratory Manager and 2 Specialist Dental Technicians.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to construct a full range of specialist fixed and removable orthodontic appliances to a high level of complexity. The post holder will also be expected to provide dental laboratory support and model provision for the current specialties OMFS, Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. The majority of the laboratory work will be prescribed by clinicians within the Orthodontic and Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department
In addition to direct hands-on laboratory work, the post holder will undertake administrative duties, including dealing with patient enquiries and record keeping, further develop skills in the application of digital technology in orthodontics and oral surgery and maintain continued professional development.
The post holder will also provide general support to the Dental Laboratory Manager and the other Dental Laboratory staff, ensuring that services are delivered effectively in the interests of patient care.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Plan and prioritise their own workload and use their own initiative to solve problems with the support of the more senior staff
- Construct a wide range of orthodontic appliances and dental laboratory work
- Analyse treatment plans and technical prescriptions, redesigning treatment as and when circumstances dictate
- Order stock on the trust system
- Maintain accurate laboratory records
- Carry out under direction basic maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Have attained the knowledge and qualifications required to enable them to satisfy the requirements for registration by the General Dental Council (Degree or equivalent)
- Have experience within the field of dental technology
- Work in conjunction with the rest of the laboratory team to deliver a high quality technical service maintaining high standards at all times
- Assist with surveys & audits of the service as required
- Follow safe working procedures in order to minimise the risks to health and safety of all staff
- Participate in the implementation of laboratory policies and procedures
- Understand and seek to attain the shared objectives of the laboratory and the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust
- Have the responsibility of using expensive equipment safely
- Deal with technical queries from staff members and members of the public and assist where possible
- Work productively and effectively to ensure the delivery of technical services to patient appointment deadlines
- Communicating effectively and engaging with other healthcare staff

Essential criteria
- GDC membership
- Degree in Dental Technology or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge in Orthodontics
- Par score calibrated

- Experience of other disciplines such as facial trauma, restorative/prosthetics

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
