A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join our supportive and compassionate Dermatology team. We want to recruit an enthusiastic Dermatology Highly Specialist Pharmacist, looking to progress their career in Dermatology.
You will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams in the Bristol NHS Group to provide an effective pharmacy service to the dermatology speciality
You will be required to deliver an outpatient clinical service at Southmead hospital . You will be expected to contribute to weekend working on a sessional basis in line with the department working structures.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will provide highly specialist clinical practice including providing an dermatology outpatient service to patients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. You will provide expert clinical practice for isotretinoin outpatient clinics and be the department lead for isotretinoin.
You will lead in local audit and quality improvement, contribute to governance, developing and implementing innovative medicines optimisation and service developments.
You will manage the dermatology homecare service, introduction of new medicines and medicines related queries.
You will educate the multidisciplinary team and patients. You will develop and maintain patient education resources.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1 1 Provides an advanced clinical pharmacy role in the provision and development of pharmaceutical services to dermatology outpatients with autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
2 2. Pharmacist lead for dermatology.
- 3. Independently assess and prescribe medications to treat dermatological conditions in a clinic setting.
- Record and communicate interventions and action plans, through appropriate processes, e.g. recording in patients’ electronic patient records, dictating and checking clinic letters to patients GPs and other clinicians.
- Provides specialist advice on medicines and processes associated with dermatology medicines management to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate information about risks and benefits of treatment to empower patients to make shared decisions about their care.
- Participate in clinical patient review with the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating excellent working relationships to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Develop networks that extend beyond the care setting, organisation and/or area of clinical practice.
- Identify new prescribing practices and monitor the safe, efficient and economic use of medicines in dermatology, in accordance with national and local guidelines and medicines legislation.
- Work in collaboration with dermatology team to develop, promote and implement guidelines, policies, and strategies to influence change within the organisation.
- Demonstrate professional judgement in appropriately escalating /seeking help or onward referral or appropriately delegating to ensure patients access care from the most appropriate clinician and maximising potential of the team.
- Assess the holistic sustainability and suitability of treatment regimens including associated consumables, the supply chain, individual preference, acceptability and the likelihood the medicines will be used as intended.
- Manage introduction of new medicines to dermatology, for example setting up service level agreements with homecare providers, implementation plans and updating prescribing guidelines.
- Deals with high level of pharmaceutical queries and provide advice and information to patients/carers/nursing and medical staff in connection with drug treatment.
- Provide professional cover in the dispensary/ward on a sessional basis.
- In collaboration with the speciality lead, proactively contribute to defining and delivering a strategic vision for the dermatology service, ensuring alignment with existing and emerging organisational and national polices.
- Lead for isotretinoin clinics ensuring correct governance is being followed.
- Works with the clinical team and other pharmacy staff to identify, plan and develop new opportunities for the dermatology service.
- Have an active role in audit and risk management to promote continuous quality improvement by effecting change in practice.
- Contribute to the clinical governance agenda in dermatology by providing medicines related expertise to the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage evidence of compliance requirements for high-cost dermatology medication.
- Provide reports on the use and cost of medicines to dermatology speciality as appropriate and analyse these to advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Contribute to the training of pharmacy undergraduate, medical students, junior doctors, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, allied health professionals and medical and nursing staff as appropriate. Train and mentor clinical pharmacy diploma students on aspects of the specialist area.
- Keep up to date with developments in Pharmacy in order to maintain a high level of professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend study days and courses as necessary for the development of the service and the individual. Maintain a record of CPD.

Essential criteria
- UK registered Pharmacist
- Clinical diploma or other recognised postgraduate qualification
- Evidence of CPD
- Leadership qualification
- Qualified Independent Prescriber
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- UK hospital pharmacy experience
- Relevant clinical pharmacy experience
- Experience of teaching or supporting learning (e.g. mentoring, marking, etc)
- Experience of audit and quality systems
Knowledge / Skills/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to manage time and prioritise effectively
- Proactive approach to the application of specialist pharmaceutical knowledge in order to enhance patient care
- Ability to successfully develop knowledge in specialist area
- Relevant IT skills to ECDL level or equivalent
