About The Role
Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low-carbon electricity.
The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.
We are more than just an alliance, we are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.
What you'll be doing
The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Design Coodinator to work within the Enabling Works portion of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), to coordinate design activities to support the Design Manager in the review and acceptance of engineering design deliverables, ensuring compliance with governing Client and regulatory requirements, a sustained focus on construction feasibility and the acceptable transfer of risk between the Designer and Contractor.
The role requires ensuring the design management procedure is correctly implemented, ensuring this is understood and correctly applied by the project team, and helping to effectively identify, coordinate and resolve design issues and interfaces, including package-specific temporary and permanent work design interfaces alongside complex package interface requirements, as associated with a major, multi-disciplinary infrastructure project.
The project team comprises the Client, members of the wider CWA, the Client’s Designer, internal and external temporary work designer(s) and sub-contractors.
Support the Design Manager in and/or undertake the following activities :
- Work with the project team to correctly implement and uphold the design management procedure and assure the completeness of design deliverables, including satisfaction of both construction and decommissioning-stage requirements.
- Coordinate designs and other design deliverables compliant with Client requirements and standards. Manage the Design phase of the project from pre-construction through works package (TOC) submission, through the gated design lifecycle to acceptance of design for construction. Support design readiness reviews and final gate reviews, ensuring timely and appropriate sign-off, identifying risks and opportunities in design and highlight any outstanding open points to be resolved.
- Ensuring that the designs have been subject to Independent Design Review where identified as required.
- Ensuring that designs have been subject to Inter-Disciplinary Checking and draft the minutes of the proceedings.
- Coordinate the involvement of stakeholders and construction input during design review meetings, understand their terms of reference to avoid preferential engineering and identify this to the Design Manager.
- Coordinate the appropriate action and response to any reviewer comments.
- Maintain, manage and update the Design Submissions & Approvals register.
- Support the interface management between project stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and construction teams to maintain alignment and clear communication.
- Ensure the allocation of design accountability and responsibility between the Designer and Contractor is correctly upheld and observed by parties contributing at the design stage.
- Engage the project team in reviewing and approving all SZC geotechnical design deliverables, ensuring interface requirements are understood and compatibly addressed within design outputs, satisfying construction sequence requirements and constructability.
- Coordinate Design Start Up meetings with the design consultants/subcontractors.
- Attend regular Design Progress Review meetings with Designer and Client and produce and issue minutes of the meetings.
- Coordinate and contribute to design interface meetings, reporting on the resolution of interfaces relative to programme priorities.
- Maintain, with the information management Team, robust document control of all technical documentation and information.
Who we're looking for
