We are looking to appoint a Software Engineering Developer to be responsible for implementation of standards compliant websites and other technical projects at VisitScotland. You will be involved in all stages of development, from initial architecture, through development, support and monitoring to deployment. You will be working with other developers to implement new applications as well as maintain the current stack.

Salary Grade: Grade F £38,125- £42,081

This role can be based out of any VisitScotland office location across Scotland. VisitScotland operates a hybrid working culture, partially office and partially home based.

  1. Delivering technical solutions as part of a delivery sprint team though participation in all aspects of agile development. This includes contributing towards discovery and engagement with problem statements, solution generation and ultimately coding the agreed solution.
  2. Consistently employing a proactive approach identifying, tracking, and tackling technical debt and bugs.
  3. Using an understanding of the future vision of our architecture, as well as understanding the history of the full application stack when contributing to VisitScotland codebases.
  4. Adhering to agreed Digital Development team standards when creating code. Upholding best practice on security and testability in every aspect of delivery.
  5. Contributing towards the documentation of technical decisions and choices, in line with project document procedures, to ensure suitable knowledge transfer is possible, as and when required.
  6. Undertaking code reviews, as and when required, to ensure quality assurance commitments are maintained.
  7. Sharing technical knowledge with other members of the development department, to enhance overall team knowledge and make the team more effective.
  8. Keeping abreast of technical and web development trends to ensure the most appropriate technical approaches, methodologies and techniques are applied.
  9. Developing knowledge of VisitScotland ways of working and technical solutions, consistently applying these to ongoing technical delivery and support.


Qualifications:


In order to be considered for the role, we ask that you can demonstrate in CV and Covering Letter the following:


  • A relevant qualification in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrable qualifications or experience
  • Java (JDK 11+)
  • Spring Framework
  • AWS or other cloud computing awareness or experience
  • MongoDB, MySQL, JPA (Hibernate/OpenJPA)
  • Practical knowledge of Github
  • Experience working with, RESTful services, JSON and XML
  • Exposure to best practice testing approaches
