Development Engineer

🌍 Development Engineer | Peterborough | Office-Based (5 Days/Week)

A leading global engineering team is looking for a Development Engineer to join their Base Engine Team in Peterborough. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking organisation investing heavily in new design and innovation to meet the evolving energy landscape.

This role offers the chance to work on impactful projects across New Product Introduction, emerging technologies, and platform updates for a wide range of industrial applications from marine and petroleum to electric generators and locomotives.

🔧 Key Responsibilities:

• Lead validation activities for core engine systems.
• Resolve technical challenges in new product development.
• Conduct FMEAs and design reviews to identify and mitigate risks.
• Plan and execute component and system validation tests.
• Diagnose and resolve production, test, and field issues.
• Collaborate with suppliers and global teams to deliver robust solutions.

🎓 Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Technical background (HNC or degree in mechanical/automotive engineering preferred).
• At least 3 years of relevant development experience.
• Expertise in one or more core engine systems (e.g., rotating systems, valvetrain, castings, lubrication, cooling).
• Strong understanding of manufacturing principles and mechanical system testing.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

🌟 Desirable Skills:

• Experience with diesel or alternative fuel engines.
• Familiarity with 8D problem solving, DVP&R, FMEA.
• Knowledge of Team Centre or similar data management tools.
• APQP methodology experience.
• Creo design capability.
• Proficiency with Microsoft O365 and Teams.
