Description

Quantum computing is moving out of the lab and into real world applications; OQC is leading the way in making it happen. Breakthroughs depend on how well we can understand, test, and refine our devices; that's where you come in! Our Material Science and Device Engineering (MSDE) team are looking for a Device Test Engineer to develop our junction characterisation processes building on our recently published findings.

You will have proven research experience, through your PhD or significant professional experience in a research environment. You may have already made the move into industry, perhaps the semiconductor sector, or looking for your first step after completing your postgraduate studies; the important thing is a drive to take ground-breaking experimental results and develop them into industry ready processes for real world impact.

If you have a deep understanding of electrical measurement and characterisation techniques, combined with an appreciation for the power of Python to automate and enhance efficient, streamlined processes, then we are eager to hear from you.

As a part of our MSDE team, you will be working closely with Oscar Kennedy and be actively involved in:

  • Independently conducting cutting edge scientific research to understand electrical properties of devices used to build quantum computers
  • Performing and expanding the use of electrical characterisation techniques on our devices, to gain deeper insights into the functionality and performance of our Josephson junctions
  • Building streamlined ways of working that enable high quality data to be generated, stored and analysed.
  • Reporting your findings to internal and external stakeholders; including contributing to published research and representing OQC in scientific settings.
  • Turning research results into mature processes.
  • Advancing the use of automations to improve the efficiency of the measurement to increase throughput and decrease errors.

You will have a high level of education in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science or similar disciplines; taking ownership of research projects involving experimental measurements which you can distil, analyse and communicate effectively. A background in quantum is not essential, but experience of electrical transport measurements is a must. Your experience of programming in Python, particularly to control equipment via APIs and developing scripting to automate processes will be invaluable to this role as we translate experimental ideas into real world processes.

While not essential, candidates who also have knowledge or experience with Josephson Physics, Nanofabrication processes, superconducting devices or nanoscale device physics would be considered highly desirable for this position.

Quantum computing has the potential to solve some of the greatest challenges facing humanity. Join us and contribute to building the future of computing hardware, today.
