Job Overview
Are you a nurse or midwife, with broad clinical experience and a passion for digital transformation? If so, an opportunity to join our team of Digital Clinical Specialists for ePMA is available. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the biggest digital transformation within the Health Board to date.
The introduction of an Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) system will transform the way that medication is managed, prescribed and administered, changing our ways of working to make practices safer for service users and more efficient for staff.
The post holder will support the Senior Nurse and the Lead Digital Clinical Specialist for ePMA in all aspects of staff engagement and gather information around current medicines related processes to contribute to the development of new ways of working with an ePMA system. The post holder will use their clinical knowledge and digital skills to support the planning, testing, and configuration of the system to ensure its successful implementation. They will also contribute to the development of training resources and provide training sessions in various formats for all clinical staff groups.
Main duties of the job
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is implementing an electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system in secondary care settings. The Digital Clinical Specialist (ePMA) will have a key role within the multi-disciplinary team which is responsible for the successful delivery of the ePMA solution to assure the safe use of medicines.
The Post-holder Will
- Use nursing / midwifery experience and knowledge of existing medicines management processes, to contribute to the design of new ways of working with ePMA.
- Be highly visible in clinical areas to act as a link for communication and engagement between the Programme team and the clinical settings.
- Use their specialist knowledge, experience and digital skills to provide clinical advice to the programme team and support the development, testing, training and implementation of ePMA across all sites.
- Contribute to the pre-implementation and delivery plans for the system, including system demonstrations; promoting the benefits of digital systems; and working with the wider Digital, Data and Technology teams to ensure the system is implemented in a safe and timely manner.
- Organise their workload and act on their own initiative to deliver the delegated programme aims.
The post-holder will be required to work in a variety of clinical settings, which could involve working a 7-day shift pattern and participating in an out of hours on-call rota during implementation phases.

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / Midwife
- Active NMC registration
- BSc degree in relevant subject, or equivalent experience
- Evidence of ongoing, relevant continuous professional development
- Knowledge of mentorship / leadership / clinical supervision
- Knowledge of confidentiality / data protection requirements
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the digital transformation agenda in health care
- PG Cert Independent Prescribing Practice qualification
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and the application to practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide range of post registration nursing / midwifery experience
- Experience with a wide range of NHS digital systems
- Experience of delivering training within the NHS
- Experienced Practice Supervisor (PS) / Practice Assessor (PA) for student nurses / midwives, in line with NMC standards
- Extensive experience of medicines administration in clinical practice
- Evidence of a sound working knowledge of the standards of medicines management within a ward environment
- Experience of effective multidisciplinary team working
- Experience of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
- Experience of conducting clinical audits
