Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong clinical expertise and a solid understanding of maternity digital systems to join the Continuous Improvement and Learning Team in the Digital Midwife role for a 1-year maternity cover position, working Mon- Friday office hours.
As a maternity service we implemented a new electronic patient record system, BadgerNet Maternity in September 2023. In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day system administration and troubleshooting of this system and will use your knowledge and negotiating skills to help improve the service to support safer care by ensuring clinical practice is supported by digital technology. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and leading significant service and operational transformation, including standardisation of maternity systems and processes, and supporting the service with ongoing adoption and optimisation of the system.

Main duties of the job
Provide clinical leadership as a Senior Midwife for all clinical areas of Maternity Services
Provide day to day support for users diagnosing and remedying errors in a timely manner in collaboration with the IT department helpdesk and system suppliers
Act as a resource for midwives and members of the multidisciplinary team who lack digital literacy and confidence
Utilise a variety of information technology systems and databases to assist with data collation and audit processes.
Coordinate and liaise with other departments to ensure the timely delivery and quality and reliability of maternity data
Support the implementation of IT projects in the unit, to meet the needs of service users, service leads and the wider national agenda
Participate in the review of IT related incidents, including Datix, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Serious Incidents (SI) involving maternity within the Trust.
Support education and training programmes, utilising data, information and audit results and findings as relevant
Ensure clinical practice is supported by digital technology.
Line manage the Band 3 administrator
Contribute to the on call midwifery rota

The service at North Bristol Trust is based at Southmead Hospital and provides a full range of obstetric services for those who live in the catchment of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The maternity department is one of the largest in the country, was awarded ‘Good’ by the CQC has more than 5200 births each year offering women the choice of 4 places of birth.
These include a Consultant led Obstetric Unit with 2 HDU rooms and 9 birthing rooms and a pool room. There is an extensive Maternal Medicine service, including Perinatal Mental Health and Complex Care team and a Fetal Medicine service. The antenatal ward hosts a Triage, day assessment area and inpatient ward. The postnatal ward prides itself on giving the best quality postnatal care, caring for each other and the new mothers, families and babies.
There is an Alongside Midwifery Unit and Home Birth Team. There are highly skilled midwifery teams who value the autonomy and varied responsibilities of these areas.
The Maternity services are well renowned nationally and internationally, having created and developed PROMPT and has a wide research portfolio.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology.
Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.
Work alongside other departments in adopting IT strategies to support the digital growth and operational running of IT systems across Maternity Services.
Support the implementation of IT projects in the unit, to meet the needs of service users, service leads and the wider national agenda
Support the development of training sessions on IT systems to be clinically appropriate and tailored to the maternity setting
Deliver annual training to staff on the Maternity Electronic Patient Record as required
Be accountable for the implementation of new functionality ensuring safe implementation to including user acceptance testing.
Work with the coding department to ensure the Maternity IT System captures relevant activity to support coding
Ensure timely notification to service leads when there is a loss of service availability, highlighting the critical nature, areas affected and business continuity plan (BCP)
Work on the Escalation Rota to support in times of high acuity

Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with significant experience in relevant setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work co-operatively with the multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge and understanding of current developments in Midwifery
- Knowledge of current digital systems and Badgernet EPR system
- Experience of teaching in a variety of different settings
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with Trust IT departments and coding teams
- Experience of managing people
