About the role
We are looking for a Director of Market, Liquidity and Model Risk to provide leadership on the development and execution of strategies to manage our market, liquidity, and model risks as they may effect the balance sheet and liquidity position of the company.
As the Director of Market, Liquidity and Model Risk you will provide overall leadership on all aspects of external risk reporting across the Risk Function. You will also participate in the leadership of the wider risk function.
Responsibilities
- Work as an adviser to the Chief Risk Officer to develop and implement the strategy for managing market, liquidity and model risks.
- Provide advice to, and influence the activities of, GEC members, their direct reports and their teams in accepting and executing that strategy,
- Developing and maintaining the capital risk appetite framework and embedding it and its use within the governance of the Group.
- Maturing the Enterprise Risk Management Framework as it relates to market, liquidity and model risks, including risk policies, tools and practices.
- Overseeing the implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework as it relates to market, liquidity and model risks.
- Leading on all external risk reporting for the function, including ORSA, Annual Report and Accounts, SFCR and RSR, and owning internal reporting processes and documents for committees and the board.
- Leading and maintaining an appropriate team of specialists in delivering that strategy.
- Supporting the integration and use of the internal model as a key element of the risk management framework
- Supporting the Chief Risk Officer in the leadership of the wider Risk Function by inspiring and motivating teams to maximise effectiveness. Demonstrating the Just behaviours working together with the Risk SLT to create an environment of trust, open communication, and cohesive team effort.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in running quantitative frameworks in financial risk, capital management or financial reporting, and understanding and meeting the requirements of Executives, Risk Committees and Boards.
- Significant breadth and depth of experience and knowledge of Life and Pensions / Financial Services.
- Commercially experienced and aware.
- People management experience.
- Proven record of building strong internal partnerships within businesses and in particular with technical functions such as Actuarial.
- Significant practical, hands on experience in running and/or developing economic capital models.
- Strong understanding of financial risk and capital management principles and techniques, including up to date understanding and experience of leading edge risk quantification techniques. Strong intellectual ability to challenge suitability and application of these techniques.
- Good understanding of market, credit, insurance and liquidity risk types and their management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including influencing, negotiation, presenting and report writing. Excellent ability to present complex financial concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Excellent understanding of regulatory context for operation of risk management, including FSA Handbook and frameworks such as Basel 3 /Solvency II.
- Understanding and experience of the application of the validation and ORSA requirements of Solvency II would be an advantage.
- Understanding of general risk management practices and their application. Ability to identify emerging risk issues and to drive understanding and management.
- Strong analytical ability, able to interpret information from a number of sources and draw together the “big picture” and bring a strategic perspective.
- Ability to succeed in an influence-based role, exerting substantial influence on those areas and individuals responsible for managing specific financial risks.
