We are Digital Science and we are advancing the research ecosystem.

We are a pioneering technology company, and our vision is of a future where a trusted and collaborative research ecosystem drives progress for all. We believe in better, open, collaborative and inclusive research. In creating the next generation of tools and working in partnership with the community we tackle some of the biggest challenges to research. In order to achieve our vision, we need innovative, inspiring and dynamic people to join our team.

Your new role

As our Director of Product, you will be part of our DataCentral Product Organisation Team.

The DataCentral Product Organisation Team, partners all areas of Digital science and adds value through contributing to the strategic growth plans of the business.

In your role as Director of Product you will be part of the senior leadership within the Digital Science Product team, responsible for overseeing the evolution of the ‘DS Names’ organizations dataset.

This includes managing high-quality data curation, developing affiliation and organization disambiguation, and ensuring data accuracy to support critical research intelligence, funding analysis, and policy insights.

You’ll lead an international team of curators (both internal and external), ensuring strategic alignment between database curation and disambiguation, while also collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and domain experts to meet customer needs across government, academia, and enterprise.

As a skilled leader in data product management—or an engineer ready to move into a product-focused role—you’ll drive innovation, foster collaboration, and contribute to shaping the vision, strategy, and roadmap for your portfolio.

This position demands strong product thinking, technical insight, a commitment to quality, and the ability to align data governance with business and market needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • You will be leading the evolution of our ‘DS Names’ organizations dataset, encompassing both the curation of high-quality, structured datasets and the development of affiliation and organization disambiguation on source documents.
  • Working with data engineers, analysts, and domain experts to ensure data accuracy, usability, and alignment with customer needs.
  • Develop and lead high-performing product teams through line management, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Manage the end-to-end data product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch and later to end-of-life.
  • Provide visibility to and inspire confidence in all stakeholders with respect to our data product roadmap and development plans.
  • Liaise with customer support and sales teams to gather customer feedback, identify pain points, and prioritise data improvements.
  • Support the Commercial & Business Operations team with writing and reviewing RFP responses, and developing statements of work.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • Experience in data product management, discovery, and delivery. You have a strong track record of defining, developing, and launching successful data-driven products from initial concept to market.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and coach a team of data curators. You are adept at leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative environment, and guiding individuals in their professional growth, particularly within data-focused roles.
  • Strong understanding of institutional structures, global geography, affiliation resolution, and research ecosystems. You possess deep domain knowledge relevant to the 'DS Names' dataset, including how organizations operate globally, how affiliations are identified, and the broader context of research.
  • Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgment to assess risks and deliver solutions. You are a resourceful problem-solver who can navigate complex challenges, make informed decisions under pressure, and consistently deliver effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL (Google BigQuery and/or PostgreSQL). You have hands-on technical skills in querying and manipulating data within relational databases, enabling you to extract insights and support data analysis.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, software development methodologies, and project management frameworks. You are comfortable with the technical landscape of data management, understanding how to utilize various tools and follow structured approaches to development and project execution.
  • Proven ability to foster cross-functional collaboration among teams with diverse areas of expertise and responsibility, leveraging product management tools and frameworks to drive alignment and deliver results. You excel at working across different departments and disciplines, using effective communication and collaboration strategies to ensure everyone is aligned towards common product goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong presentation and relationship management skills. You can articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely, present effectively to various audiences, and build strong, productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to work with a high level of autonomy. You are well-organized, efficient, and capable of managing multiple priorities and responsibilities independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt projects in response to changing requirements. You are flexible and resilient, able to adjust plans and strategies as new information or needs arise, ensuring projects remain on track and relevant.

Don't worry if you don't meet every qualification—let us be the judge! Studies show that many qualified candidates from under-represented groups hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive team and strongly encourage you to submit your application.
